Holy Spirit Pt. 2 - The Day of Pentecost

Following last week’s sermon on the significance/impact of the Holy Spirit, we will see exactly how the filling with the Holy Spirit took place. (Jesus promised that there would be power upon receiving the Holy Spirit.) When the Holy Spirit came on the day of Pentecost, it resulted in everything that Jesus said that the Spirit would do (in His place)—He’d bringing about conviction that leads to repentance; the disciples replicating Jesus’ ministry such as healing, deliverance, and encouragement. We will also look at how we (one) can experience the Holy Spirit.

Holy Spirit Pt. 1

In Jesus’ ascension, the disciples were suddenly without their leader who had shown them and guided them through their every step. How were they supposed to be on their own all of a sudden? How were they to do everything that Jesus commanded them to do (like the Great Commission)? Who was going to be their guide? Jesus promised that He’d send the Holy Spirit to take His place. Today, we are taught to live with/by the power of the Holy Spirit; He is our guide, teacher, and the very supplier of our strength. We want to impart this incredible truth so that every believer is equipped not only with the knowledge but the active ministry of the Holy Spirit in their lives.

Fourth Day

“Now what?” is the question that everyone including the disciples asked after Jesus’ resurrection. What were they supposed to do? Where were they supposed to “go”? The command was clear: “Go into all the parts of the world, and preach the gospel to all creation.” The Great Commission will serve as the prelude to the book of Acts which we will study. We cautiously approach the heeding of the call to go and the role of the Holy Spirit in our going.

The Faith of Thomas

We celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. We want to revisit the room where the disciples were hiding in fear of arrest and further persecution. While Thomas is known to many as one lacking faith, we will learn that he displayed tremendous faith and courage when he encountered the risen Lord. On Resurrection Sunday, we pray to commit our lives to not only knowing but following Jesus wholeheartedly.

Why?

For us to understand the mission of the life of Jesus. Jesus literally lived to die—his purpose was to become the sacrificial lamb who would once and for all atone for the sin of humanity. We ponder if his death was necessary, meaning could there have been any other way? Why did Jesus have to die? In this, we consider the historical setting of Jesus’ life and death and what that means for us today. We pray to properly ready ourselves for the Resurrection Sunday.

You Are Not Alone

Loneliness is a common disease these days. Loneliness isn’t limited for people who are single, but those who perpetually feel alone regardless of their marital status and social status. It is often an invisible battle where no one else knows but the person who is infected by it. I want to encourage people to come out of their hiding, be present in their current life as they plug themselves into a spiritual community.

The Beauty of Singlehood

In lieu of our mini-series on marriage, we want to focus on those who are single. We will learn that being single is not burdensome; it’s not a mere “sitting room” where you passively wait for marriage to just happen. You have the greatest blessing and the call of “getting more” of Jesus. This call to be undividedly devoted to Jesus also applies for those that are married as we continue to celebrate and exemplify in marriage.

Power of Marriage

We want to continue on talking about marriage. We explore a little deeper into the secret of marriage—there is power not within ourselves but in the Holy Spirit who indwells us. The call to submit and to love unconditionally is not difficult, but it is impossible without the active power (workings) of the Holy Spirit. As Christ demonstrates over and over in our own lives, so shall we love and grace each other as husband and wife.

Secret of Marriage

The way we experience God is always made full through the way we experience other relationships. We’ve been talking much about love and grace…and we are reminded to love precisely the way we are loved by God. In this sermon (series), we want to explore the secret and the power of marriage. It's in self-sacrifice and total acceptance we find the real engine of marriage. We will base our pursuit on reflections on Ephesians 5.
