Exodus Series - Jesus the Passover Lamb

We often forget that the Bible is about one thing: God’s redemptive pursuit for His fallen children. Today, we are reminded of the salvation that comes through the sacrifice of God’s only Son, Jesus Christ. It is through His sacrifice, through His blood, we pass through God’s judgment. Salvation is in His blood! “It doesn’t matter what’s on the inside, it’s what’s on the outside that counts!” Jesus’ work on the cross is enough—no matter what we may contain within us.

Why The Leper

After a powerful encounter with God, Moses finally returns to Egypt. The land which he fled in shame as a murderer, he now returns as the deliverer of Israel. He is on a very difficult mission of convincing the king of the most powerful nation in the world at that time. Today, we associate ourselves not only to God’s people (the Hebrews), but we see how obstinate and blind we can be just like Pharaoh was. As God used the plagues to reveal Pharaoh’s heart, God reminds and challenges us to remove anything that stands in the way of our worship unto Him.

Exodus Series - Yahweh

When God calls us for a task, He reminds us that HE is sufficient. It is not about what we can do or cannot do, but it’s about who He is and what He alone can do. “God does not call the qualified but qualifies the called.” Our job is to be available and be near Him as He will be faithful to carry out His Word. God does not nullify our past, but He redeems it. No matter how ugly, bad, or feeble our lives may seem, God will use what we already have in our hands. What prevents us from being used by God is not that we lack talents or abilities because we lack the faith that He can and will.

Exodus Series - I Will Be With You

Moses has been tucked away in the middle of nowhere for 40 years. During that time, he is tending to his little family, herding sheep, and trying his best to make peace with all that’d happened in his life. One day, God shows up to him and shares His aching heart for the Israelites (much like Moses had) and commissions him for the task of leading them out of Egypt. We learn today that our time in the wilderness (“no man’s land”) is never without a purpose as God uses it as training ground where we are groomed for His purposes. Moreover, God’s call on our lives is always beyond our abilities where we must learn to depend on His presence and His provision. We pray to walk in the power of the great “I am”.

Exodus Series - Moses, a Man on the Move

Moses’ life prefigures Israel’s journey as God’s chosen nation. It is important as well as helpful to learn of God’s dealing with Moses and Moses’ response to God in certain situations as that sets a precedence for the Israelites who are being led into the Promise land. We learn today that our stories and our journey with God have a tremendous impact—our choices, our faith do matter significantly in the lives of other people. We want to be sure that we are fully surrendered and submitted before God’s leading in our lives.

Exodus Series - Are We There Yet

Much like the children in long car rides, we often find ourselves asking the question, “are we there yet?” It is the question that convey both excitement as well as growing frustration of having waited too long. In life, how we respond to the tension of “where we are” and “where we want to be” reveals how successful of a journey we will have. Today, we begin our journey through the book of Exodus—we will see the forging of Israel’s identity as God’s chosen as they are in a ride filled with many tests, turns, and a whole lot of waiting. I pray that we, too, commit to the journey of becoming a people of His Presence.

The Times They Are a-Changin'

As we are at the one-year mark of our church, we cling to the call to be faithful for His Kingdom.  We are to not waiver as everything is so quick to change nowadays but place our trust in the One who is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.  "The harvest is [still] plentiful, but the workers are few."  We pray that we'd all take part in this great harvest.

Homies

Continuing on the theme of compassion, ministry and "standing alongside each other", we look at another instance where people took the initiative to help someone in great need.  Like in the parable of the good Samaritan, we see compassion in action where four men committed to see their disabled friend to see Jesus face to face.  We, too, are called by Jesus to relieve pain and suffering of our neighbors as we bring them to Jesus. H

Make Room

We will hear testimonies from two of the members today. Here at Rooftop, we believe in sharing our life stories as they are entwined along our journey together. One member shares the experience of going through a 11-week membership class while the other share the impact of the sermon series on Nehemiah which recently concluded. The greater purpose for sharing testimonies is not inspiration but committing to one another as we are called to be ministers (hands and feet) of our Lord Jesus. May we make room in our lives so others can heal and be strong in the Lord.

Nehemiah Series - Falling Forward

We are finally finishing up the 14-week journey in the book of Nehemiah. As trekked along the narrative of the Jews through the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem, we were challenged and encouraged as our walk with God closely resembled the journey of God’s people. Instead of the book ending on a high note, we see God’s people totally failing in their ways before Him. Today, we learn the very importance of pushing through our failures as we set our sight on our faithful God.
